XPENG – Trinidad’s Newest Electric Vehicle

Trinidad and Tobago’s electric vehicle market has just received a notable glow-up. Enter XPENG, one of the newest EV brands to arrive on our local automotive landscape.
Making its debut with two models, XPENG introduces the G6 and the X9. The G6 positions itself as the brand’s flagship SUV, while the X9 steps into the spotlight as a luxurious 7-seater family vehicle, adopting a Rolls-Royce approach to large family transport. However, for this first experience, our focus was firmly on the XPENG G6.
Our time with the G6 saw us venture across Trinidad, from deep south in Icacos to the far eastern roads of Toco, along with the usual daily errands in between. The G6 is impressively battery efficient. Journeys exceeding 50 kilometers only consumed a small percentage of its charge, highlighting just how capable this EV is for everyday driving.
Spend a few minutes around the G6 and you’ll quickly notice that it comes fully loaded. With a claimed range of up to 570 kilometers. Powering the experience is a rear-wheel-drive setup producing 280 horsepower and 440Nm of torque, delivering smooth yet confident performance when needed.
Inside, the cabin carries a premium feel, almost as if XPENG drew inspiration from several high-end European interiors and blended them into one cohesive package. The panoramic sunroof floods the cabin with light, creating an open and airy atmosphere for both driver and passengers.
At the heart of the interior sits a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, complete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Complementing the experience is the impressive XOPERA 18-speaker sound system, which delivers a rich and immersive audio experience. Combined with its spacious and practical layout, the G6 quickly proves itself to be a very comfortable place to spend time.
On the road, the G6 is genuinely enjoyable to drive. The ride quality feels composed and relaxing, while the responsiveness of the electric motor delivers that instant surge of performance EV drivers have come to love. The overall experience feels refined and deliberate, one that’s surprisingly memorable after just a short time behind the wheel. Add in a wide suite of driver-assistance and safety technologies, and the G6 becomes a very compelling package on Trinidad’s roads.
Returning to the bigger picture, the arrival of XPENG has certainly shaken things up within the local EV market. It promises a unique ownership experience, and from our first impressions, it delivers on that promise.
Currently priced at TTD $355,000, the XPENG G6 represents excellent value when compared to the EV options presently available in Trinidad and Tobago.
